Garlic Butter Chicken is a simple yet flavorful dish made with tender chicken breasts or thighs, seared in olive oil, and cooked in a rich butter and garlic sauce. Enhanced with fresh thyme, a splash of lemon juice, and optional Parmesan cheese, this recipe offers a delicious balance of savory and tangy flavors. Perfect for a quick weeknight meal or a special dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • Salt and black pepper
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth or white wine
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme or rosemary
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Season the chicken with salt and pepper.
  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sear the chicken until golden brown on both sides. Remove and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, melt the butter and sauté the minced garlic until fragrant.
  • Add chicken broth or white wine to deglaze the pan, then stir in lemon juice and fresh herbs.
  • Return the chicken to the skillet and cook until fully done, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Optionally, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and let it melt.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Thighs are juicier and more flavorful, while breasts are leaner.
  • For a lighter sauce, reduce the butter and substitute with more chicken broth or wine.
