Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup diced onions
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 slices of bread (white, sourdough, or rye)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar or American cheese
  • 4 tbsp butter (for grilling)
  • Optional toppings: pickles, jalapeños, mustard, ketchup

Instructions

  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef with diced onions until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Season the beef with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 2 minutes, then set aside.
  • Butter one side of each slice of bread.
  • Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Place a slice of bread, buttered side down, in the skillet.
  • Add a layer of shredded cheese, a spoonful of the seasoned ground beef, and more cheese.
  • Top with another slice of bread, buttered side up.
  • Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, pressing down gently, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.
  • Remove from the skillet, cut in half, and serve hot with optional toppings like pickles or ketchup.

Notes

  • Add jalapeños or hot sauce for extra spice.
  • Swap out cheddar for provolone or mozzarella for a different flavor.
  • For a crispier texture, grill the sandwiches over medium-low heat to ensure the bread crisps up without burning while the cheese melts.
