Mac and cheese meatloaf casserole is a two-in-one comfort dish that layers creamy mac and cheese over a savory meatloaf base. Ingredients

  • Ground beef
  • Onion
  • Breadcrumbs
  • Egg
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Ketchup
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Elbow macaroni
  • Cheddar cheese
  • Milk
  • Butter
  • Flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine ground beef, chopped onion, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, salt, and pepper. Mix well and press into a greased casserole dish to form the meatloaf layer.
  3. Bake for 25 minutes.
  4. While the meatloaf is baking, cook the elbow macaroni according to package directions.
  5. In a saucepan, melt butter, whisk in flour, and slowly add milk to create a sauce. Stir in cheddar cheese until smooth.
  6. Drain macaroni and mix with the cheese sauce.
  7. Spread the mac and cheese evenly over the baked meatloaf layer.
  8. Return to the oven and bake for another 15-20 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, try mixing some shredded mozzarella or Parmesan into the cheese sauce.

You can also top the casserole with breadcrumbs for extra crunch.
